1.9 vs M Coupe (?!?!)

As the owner of both vehicles I thought I would share my thoughts and impressions on driving both of these wonderful cars (manual 1.9 only of course). Like it or not the 1.9 is the Z3 most of us have, and I will start off by saying I am a bit defensive of it since I've owned mine since 1996 (I am 49 years old)!
Performance wise I have always thought the 1.9 was under-rated. The low end torque is definitely a challenge compared to even a Miata, but if you know how to work the shifter you can out race 75% of the traffic on the road (okay that includes mini-vans, trucks, and Priuses). Speaking of the shifter, it is silky smooth. I know many here think of that as "mushy", but if your car is a DD and you are dealing with stop and go traffic, the 1.9's easy shifter is more appreciated. Freeway driving the 1.9 is under-rated. I can keep up with most anything and have plenty of torque for passing provided somebody in a Porsche isn't trying to race.
And now the M Coupe (mine is the s52). First off, what a machine! I've only had mine 2 months, but I definitely got a good one... I know lots of people use it as a DD, but I could never do that. This car, short and sweet, is a race car, and one of the best looking, exclusive ones ever made. The second I climb in there, with that sound, power, and large hips in the mirror I become a dangerous animal. You want to pass me? I don't think so. Not in this car! I definitely become somebody else, and sometimes that might not be good....
The short shifter I have is notchy to the point I thought that something was wrong with it until I had it checked out. I like it now, it makes you focus more on what you are doing, but it is definitely more work and if you have a long commute in traffic (I don't) the 1.9 is definitely more pleasant (ok easier).
Space wise I would rate both cars even, provided you don't have racks on your Coupe. I own a bakery and have picked up 300 pounds of flour, 100 pounds of other ingredients. It all fit provided top was down. Also fit a surfboard easier that way, Coupe a little too short to stuff one in there, not that I would!
Both cars scream for people to look at them, but the roadster really only with the top down. Put it up and you can pretty well hide, unlike the Coupe where people have already had me roll my tinted windows down to ask what it is (that is pretty cool).
Reliability wise the 1.9 has been amazing and I'm pretty sure the MCoupe will be as well, considering the limited driving I will do in it. I have 99000 mile on roadster and 78000 on the Coupe. I will check in on that as time goes on. Sorry to be long winded but being fortunate enough to own both thought the contrast might be interesting.
