1989 BMW E32 750IL water pump crank issue

I have noticed since getting my project '89 750il up and running that the water pump crankshaft seems to be stuck. The clutch behind the viscous fan is operational, but the pump pulley, and surrounding 4 bolts that secures the crank are stuck. My landlord that owned a similar year 5 series is telling me I need a new water pump.. I do not want to buy an oem water pump right now as they are expensive. Anyways, I am wondering if it is just the damper or bearings inside that would inhibit the movement of the crank, surrounding pulley, and rest of fan assembly from. I would like to add, that when I was driving down the road, the main belt dedicated for alternator & hydraulic pump burned off and caused my car to overheat.. Which led to the top right most hose(Coolant hose? or return, UNSURE) to radiator to rupture, which led to the car losing power. I would very much like to figure out why this happened. Yes, I understand it was foolish to drive the car without utilizing crank/fan to cool engine additionally, but It did not overheat even without the addition of viscous fan. Thanks for any help all.
