I have a 2006 x3 with the M-package and have been having some A/C problems. Yesterday I went to drive the car and I heard a weird sound (repetitive clicking sound that sounded almost like a muffled machine gun) whenever the A/C was on. It stopped when it was off. I ended up not driving it yesterday and this morning I drove about 2 miles to see if the sound had stopped. The A/C was on but not getting cold, when I turned the car off there was smoke coming from underneath my hood and there was a bad smell of something being burnt. I drove back home without the A/C on and the smoke went away but the burnt smell was still lingering. Any ideas about what it could be?
Sorry for the longer post I have not seen this before, I have had to recharge the system about 2 years ago, but I did not have any of these other issues. Anything helps!
