Auxiliary Fan/Viscous Fan question - 2000 e38

Auxiliary electric fan getting very loud when engine gets warm/hot. I am new to this car and want to know if this is normal.

When first start car when car is cold, the auxiliary fan does not come on. When turn the AC on the auxiliary fan goes on at low speed. When engine heats up, auxiliary fan goes into high speed and is very very loud. At this time, turning the AC off will not stop the auxiliary fan. (Note: the temperature guage in the dash is in the normal range, coolant level is normal)

Is it normal for the auxiliary fan to come on at high speed all the time when car warms up under normal operating conditions?

Could it be problem with the viscous fan not working hard enough?

Does the viscous fan run constant at all temperatures or does it spin faster when it heats up? Viscous fan does not seem to run faster when engine gets hotter.

Any ideas, or is this normal.
