Hello again,
Recently replaced my control arms/end links/lower bushings on my 88 325is to find out that 'knocking sound' was coming from a Front Bilstein Sport strut that kicked the bucket. I've recently ordered replacement struts (Billy Sports) and am interested in installing the struts on my own, if possible. I was reading over the Pelican DIY article and it mentions that springs have to be compressed before removing the spring/strut assembly from the car for replacement. Is this still the case with my current Bilstein Sport/Eibach Sport springs as well? I was hoping to remove that assembly and bring it down to my local garage to have them remove the springs from the old struts and re-installed to the new ones, then bring em back home and do the installation my self (I do not have a spring compressor).
Although I think the current strut mounts are under 2 years old, I'm also going to order new strut mounts and spring pads to be on the safe side. I was looking at the OEM offset strut mounts on Turner Motorsports that increase negative Camber. Just curious how drastic this offset is and whether it is really detrimental to tire wear for daily driving? If it is a drastic change I won't go for them. Later down the road I would like to bring my car to the track for autocross/track driving- nothing seriously competitive though, just for fun.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks.
