Finally got my car on the road last week and have been more or less taking it easy just feeling stuff out so far. I got my gopro car mounts this week and have been keeping it in the car just in case of any fun. A friend hosts a euro meet the last Monday of each month at an In n Out in North Mexico and I figured I could go and get a couple of them to hit a canyon after. I was right in my assumption and got 2 of them to agree to a fun jog through the canyon just so I could feel stuff out and test out the go pro. One friend drives a ridiculously clean 190E and the other has a basically stock MK7 GTI. As we were getting ready to leave another regular attendee decided to join in his TT RS.
On the way to the canyon I got a chance to line up with the RS from a 3rd gear roll and from a dig and managed to get it on my GoPro. Vid is below.
I have the camera mounted upside down from the vinyl exposed when you tilt the sunroof. The camera was set to wide angle which distorted the view quite a bit and actually made his pull look much stronger. We were actually pretty close til about 70 when he started stretching it out. By 110 he had about 2 cars out in front of me. Overall I was pretty happy, I thought this was a fairly honorable death. Not sure what the TT RS had other than a really nice sounding exhaust, I didn't ask. We were all pretty surprised by the results and when we pulled into a parking lot after the canyon the TT driver was like "Dude, WTF you got in that thing?!" Really cool guy and really fun night.
The run up the canyon was tempered for the most part as we got stuck behind a civilian in a jetta. He was moving fairly quick for a jetta, but not quite the pace we were hoping for. I drove back down by myself and got most of that on vid until the camera died. Vid of the way down is below, just a fun workout wasn't anywhere near balls to the wall, really just feeling out the car again but damn was it fun.
