ok, '01 model with v8 and about 200k miles. The other night I started it and it ran awful, like almost no power and just crawled down the road. I stopped to think about what might be going on and turned it off and then back on. Suddenly running fine again.
Went about a week and driving it daily to/from work with no issues and then it happened again. This time turned it off and on about 5 times before it began running smoothly again.
Ideas?

Somewhat new here, had the car a few months, first time BMW owner. So far I've replaced the coolant tank and changed the oil. Lots of past mechanic experience (US and Honda).

740il Intermittently runs awful on startup, re-start of the engine clears it up
