Hello all, I have a 1997 BMW 528i with a coolant leak. I noticed it was coming from the thermostat so I took it off and found some major corrosion (picture attached). I tried to clean it out, got two new gaskets, and put some gasket sealer (Permatex) around the corrosion. I let it sit 24 hours but after putting more coolant in it started to leak a even with no pressure. Any ideas on how to repair the corrosion?
Also, any ideas as to why/how this happened? At this point the only permanent fix, to me, would be to remove the head and have it milled down.
