I have a 99 e36 BWM 323is that all of a sudden wont turn over at all. I was driving the car and stopped at a gas station and when I came out to leave I turned the ignition and nothing happened. No sound from the starter or the clicking of a dead battery. All power is there and had to push start the car and she drove fine all the way home. After I got home it still wont start. I'm a decent mechanic, but this is my first BMW. Do you guys think the chip in my key finally died or do you think it's possibly the starter? Also, I don't have any spare keys to swap out. Thanks for the help in advance.
Note- I had the spinning key issue recently so I pulled the steering column apart to start the car by putting the key in the ignition and turn the ignition switch over with a screwdriver. Yea it is a pretty ugly situation, but that never stopped it from starting before. The EWS wires and antenna are not damaged from what I can tell. I haven't tested them nor do I know how to.
