Using temporary Instrument cluster

Hello all,

I have some dead pixels on my instrument cluster.

I want to send it to VDO for repair.

I also have a "spare" Instrument cluster I was going to put in while waiting for the return of my original.

I have been reading about the TAMPER light etc and mileage and VINs not matching when installing a non matching instrument cluster.

I don't have an issue with this while mine is getting repaired but what happens when I get the original back and reinstall it?

The mileage wont match so I will I have a permanent TAMPER LIGHT on?

Will it self correct when the original is reinstalled? That is, will actual mileage be transferred to my cluster from one of the other sources?

I've tried searching but I can't find a direct answer to my question.

I've seen comments that there is a 500 mile limit, another says 200 where it will self update and another says don't drive at all.
