AC Schnitzer S7 build... third time's the charm!

Ever since I got my first E38, I've always wanted to make it into some sort of replica AC Schnitzer S7. Not that there are many kicking around anymore...

It's not my first, nor for that matter, my second rodeo:

First one was a 1996. A few of you will remember the day this picture was taken...

Anyway, that car leaked everything... everywhere... Full of problems. I had quite a learning curve ahead of me. For example, this awaited me when the valve cover gaskets were done:

Yeah. Things went downhill from there, with a timing chain guide failure a little less than a year after that photo was taken.

After that, I got Xephius' old 740iL:

While reasonably well taken care of, it also suffered a guide failure, right around a somewhat difficult time in my life. With no way to fix it, it also suffered a terrible fate:

Some of the coolest pieces live on in my current car; some other items went to GSXRliterbikz, Seven40iL and tekazgtr1984, so it wasn't all terrible.

After that, I thought "I'm done with the E38; no way I'm getting another one!"

Then, on my way back to the best coast, I came across Craig's stunning 740iL:

Sigh... I even went to look at a 750iL in Edmonton when I was there, but it was trashed.

A few months passed, and I found a nice black/black 740i Sport being pretty much given away. The catch? Had a check engine light for P0011.

I mean, it was cheap, and looked half decent, so I thought "eh, why not?"

Luckily for me, the P0011 was just a cam sensor. Phew, I feel like I got a stay of execution.

So, I had big plans for the car, but no money to make it happen. We've all seen stories of people that buy cheap E38s and dump it a few months later when an expensive repair arises; I figured this time I'd have to DIY everything, and it's been a great learning experience.

The following post will be an update, and I plan on updating this topic as the build/repairs chug along.
