Hi guys, I'm a newbie in this forum and at first I would like to salute everyone :)
I own 1996 750i with M73 engine and with steptronic transmission. Lately I've been having some problems. The car is vibrating between 800 to 1500 rpm. It feels like a dead coil but it isn't.
Engine seems fine at idle but when I give a lil gas it starts to shake. More vibration at cold start but after running few miles it decreases but doesn't go away. But after passing 1500 rpm it runs great and smooth. And I don't feel any power loss at high rpms.
So what I did to cure this problem;
- Ignition coils checked and in working order
- Changed the spark plugs (a cable goes through to cylinder 8 wasn't transmitting enough electricity so I changed the cable)
- Fuel injectors cleaned
- Checked the fuel pump and it is working good
- Had a problem with the AC Compressor and got a new one (Denso) so it is new also
My local workshop told me that the throttle bodies (EML) on these cars is failing after some mileage and it was replacing under warranty. (but yes it was almost 10 years ago). I have 140k miles on odometer and to feel safer, I bought a pair of used TB's on ebay but the problem didn't go away. (The seller said that the tb's have 60k miles on it)
A friend of mine who has a E39 525i with 220k miles (first owner and dyi guy, and he really knows these cars) told me to check the camshaft positioning sensor or the vacuum system, but before going back to shop, wanted to ask you guys.
So folks, what where should I check? I really love my car and I want to keep it as much as I can but this is very annoying.
Cheers!
And here is my E38 btw;
