Didn't see an introduction forum so figured I would post here since I just picked up a 99 540i.
It's got a few issues, it won't be at my place to start working on it. But since I got a week to figure things out, hopefully some research will go a long ways. Anyways, here it is, I'll go over the details after.

I wanted to get some better pics, but it's in a pretty tight garage.
Now the details. It's a 99 540i with 161k miles. The reason it has one non-painted rim is because whoever owned it before these people had the spare tire on the back (I don't know why?).
Issues
1) So thats painted black, they put the full width rim back on when they got it and the spare away. They supposedly said it has a bad alternator. We jumped it and it fired right up and ran good. Then removed the cables and it starts running like crap instantly and the multimeter read just 8.22v. So that checked out to be true.
2) Beyond that it has an oil leak, the guy said he replaced the valve cover gaskets, but it's leaking on the passenger side header, which makes me believe they must have pinched the new gasket, I can't think of anything else in that area that would leak oil (but I've never worked on an e39, so if there is please enlighten me). Also it might be leaking from the pan? I'm not sure on that, we'll see when I get it here and get under it.
3) Moonroof is down a bit. I didn't fiddle with it. He said if you push it up it seals? Not sure if there are any know issues like this and what the fixes are?
4) No AC. I didn't look into this at all. As it's not detrimental to it driving. Hopefully just needs a charge (we'll see later).
And thats about it. It's got some dents and dings, nothing out of the ordinary for a 16 year old car. But it supposedly came from California and has never seen winter (means a lot to a Minnesota, thats a diamond in the rough up here). It has some issues, but (and I'm not expert) I think the $1100 I scored it for is quite the steal. While it was jumped to the other car it seemed to run good. Slipped the clutch a bit in each gear to check syncros and get a feel of the clutch and that all felt good. So lets here what you guys think of the price (hopefully was a good deal) and the issues (hopefully don't hear it has a bad headgasket symptom or something).
